Specimen Requirements
Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
Plasma
Draw blood in a green-top (lithium heparin) tube(s). Spin down and
send 1 mL (pediatric: 0.2 mL) of lithium heparin plasma.
Plasma for a trough level is usually drawn 30 minutes before
dose.
Note: 1. Date and time of draw and trough plasma are required on request form for processing.
2. Label specimens appropriately (corresponding draw time and as trough plasma).
Serum
Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube(s) or a serum gel
tube(s). Spin down and send 1 mL (pediatric: 0.2 mL) of
serum. Serum for a trough level is usually drawn 30 minutes
before dose.
Note: 1. Date and time of draw and trough serum are required on request form for processing.
2. Label specimens appropriately (corresponding draw time and as trough serum).
Reference Values
5.0-10.0 µg/mL
Critical value (automatic call-back): ≥20.0 µg/mL
