Test Code PV WORKUP Semen Analysis, Post Vasectomy

Methodology

This assay is used to verify that sperm have been successfully excluded from the ejaculate after vasectomy. Report information will include presence or absence of sperm cells and motility, if present, their concentration, and presence or absence of round cells.

Includes % motility, total count, and remarks. Concentrated exam performed.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen must arrive within 24 hours of collection.

 

Submit total ejaculate in a screw-capped, sterile container. Forward promptly at ambient temperature only.

Note:  1. Patient should have 2 to 7 days of sexual abstinence at time of semen collection for accurate results.

2. A completely filled out “Semen Analysis Patient Information Sheet” in “Request Forms” in “Special Instructions” must accompany specimen to laboratory.

Reference Values

A patient is considered sterile when 2 semen analyses, 1 month apart, are negative for the presence of sperm.
