Methodology
Note: 1. Decatur Morgan Hospital-Decatur General Campus and Parkway Campus provides chain-of-custody testing for drug testing only.
2. Specimens will be submitted by Decatur Morgan Hospital-Decatur General Campus or Parkway Campus to the reference laboratory of it choosing or as specified by employers.
Chain-of-custody is a record of the disposition of a specimen to document who collected it, who handled it, and who performed the analysis. Chain-of-custody is required whenever the results of testing could be used in a court of law. Its purpose is to protect the rights of the individual contributing the specimen by demonstrating that it was under the control of personnel involved with testing the specimen at all times; this control implies that the opportunity for specimen tampering would be limited.
Decatur Morgan Hospital-Decatur General Campus and Parkway Campus has specimen containers, seals, and documentation to satisfy legal requirements for chain-of-custody.
Note: 1. Follow instructions in “C.O.C. (Chain-of-Custody) Collection Procedure” in “Special Instructions.”
2. Decatur Morgan Hospital-Decatur General Campus or Parkway Campus will use Employer Kits, if provided.
