Specimen Requirements

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

 

Plasma

Draw blood in a green-top(lithium heprin) tube(s) from patient prior to Cortrosyn injection as baseline.  Patient then goes to doctor's office or may arrange to have in out-patient surgery to be given 0.25 mg dose of Cortrosyn.  Post injection collections should be made 30 and 60 minutes from dose given. Spin down and send 1 mL (pediatric:  0.2 mL) of plasma refrigerated. Note:  1. Indicate time of draw and plasma on request form.

2. Label specimen appropriately (plasma).

3. If multiple specimens are drawn, send separate request form for each specimen.

 

Serum

Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube(s) or a serum gel tube(s). from patient prior to Cortrosyn injection as baseline. Patient then goes to doctor's office or may arrange to have in out-patient surgery to be given 0.25 mg dose of Cortrosyn.  Post injection collections should be made 30 and 60 minutes from dose given.Spin down and send 1 mL (pediatric:  0.2 mL) of plasma refrigerated. Note:  1. Indicate time of draw and plasma on request form.

2. Label specimen appropriately (serum).

3. If multiple specimens are drawn, send separate request form for each specimen.
