Specimen Requirements

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

Blood

Draw blood in a green-top (heparin) tube(s) or a lavender-top (EDTA) tube(s), and send 5 mL of heparinized or EDTA whole blood. Forward promptly.

Note:  1. Indicate blood on request form

2. Label specimen appropriately (blood).

Plasma

Draw blood in a green-top (heparin) tube(s) or lavender-top (EDTA) tube(s). Spin down and send 2.5 mL of heparinized or EDTA plasma.

Note:  1. Indicate plasma on request form.
2. Label specimen appropriately (plasma).

Serum
Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube(s) or a serum gel tube(s). Spin down and send 2.5 mL of serum.

Note:  1. Indicate serum on request form.
2. Label specimen appropriately (serum).
